Although travelling is an amazing experience it can be one of the most expensive things you buy. From flights and accommodation to food and activities, the cost of a trip can soon start to add up. Whilst it is difficult to travel on a budget, it’s definitely not impossible. To help, here are 10 easy ways to save money both before and during your travels.

There are lots of different ways to save money before you travel, including:

– Set Yourself Goals For Transport, Accommodation And Spending Money

One of the best ways to ensure you’re saving enough money for your trip is to set yourself savings goals for absolutely everything. Whether it’s your transport to and from your airport, your flights, your accommodation or your spending money – the more you calculate before your trip the more likely you are going to be able to save enough. Whilst it can be hard to calculate exact prices, a rough estimate is definitely a great start. For tips and tricks on setting budgets for travelling, you can read this guide here.

– Stop ‘Treating Yourself’ As Often As You Can

One of the worst things about having a ‘treat yourself’ mentality is that more often than not, you end up buying things that you don’t need. Whilst it is nice to have a treat every now and again, a great way to save is to ask yourself if you really want the item you’re buying. If you do, wait thirty days and then go back to buy it. If you still really want it after waiting a month, you know it’s going to be a worthwhile purchase. If not, you will have saved yourself some money.

– Pack Your Own Lunches And Make Your Own Coffee

A big expense for people that head out to work each day is the morning coffee and lunch-break must-haves. Whether you love getting a bagel from the local coffee shop or enjoy tucking into the snack box at work, cutting down on these costs could save you more than you imagine. Rather than taking money to work, think about buying in bulk each week and packing your own lunches. They can be just as tasty!

– Consider Taking Out A Loan To Fund Your Trip

If you are really struggling to get the money together but know it’s going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity, why not consider taking out a loan to fund your trip? Whilst people often look at this method negatively, it’s actually a great way to spread the cost of a trip. – Ask Someone To Help Keep You Accountable

If you think you need a bit of encouragement to help you save, why not ask someone to keep you accountable. Whether they join in and save with you or regularly check up on you to see how you’re doing – this is a great way to ensure you’re staying on track and hitting your targets!

There are also lots of different ways to save money during your travels, including:

– Consider A Travel Card With Zero Charges

When travelling there are lots of different cards that you can use instead of carrying money, but the best ones are those that have zero commission and charges. Whilst you still get charged to withdraw money from your standard bank, an online bank will allow you to do this free of charge when travelling. Ideal for those that don’t want to carry large amounts of cash with them, these cards are becoming the norm for those that travel often.

– Set A Budget For Each And Every Day

Although you will have set overall budgets for each aspect of your trip, setting them for each day is also important. The best thing about doing this is that you are able to see exactly what you’re spending and when giving yourself the opportunity to carry money over if you need to.

– Shop Around For Flights, Accommodation and Activities

If you’re making your travel arrangements on the go, it’s important that you’re doing everything you can to shop around. Whether that means using several different sites to check flight prices, using comparison sites for accommodation or finding discount codes for activities – there are so many different ways to save money whilst travelling it would be a shame not to waste them. – Eat At Local, Independent Place Rather Than Chain Restaurants

When travelling one of the biggest costs you will come across is the food that you eat. Having to eat three meals a day as well as snacks can really eat away at your budget, no matter where you’re staying. Whilst it’s okay to have a few treat yourself meals during your travels, the best way to save money is to find the places that are off the beaten tracks. You won’t find any compromise on quality but you’ll definitely feel the difference when it comes to price. You may be surprised at what you find too!

– Prioritise What You Want To Do And What You Want To See

If you really need to save on money one of the best things you can do is prioritise what you want to do. Whilst it may mean missing out on certain activities, you need to think about which activities mean the most to you. If you really don’t want to miss out on anything, try putting everything into an order of importance – allowing yourself to work your way down the list if you have enough money. If you’re lucky, you may find you are able to do everything by the end of your trip.

  1. I love trying the independent places when I’m on the road and it’s crazy how much a card without charges can help you because man do they add up! I started to put what I used to spend on lunches aside and I quickly got a nice savings account going because it can be £30/40 a week! The treat yourself mentality is a killer too – but I often tell myself nothing is as good a treat as my travel reward! ♥️ Great post x
